How many photos does a wedding guest take?
By Max Bryselbout · Text updated on 13 October 2026
How many photos you collect depends on the guest count, the length of the celebration and how many people take part. These figures help you plan; they’re estimates, not a promise for your wedding.
Estimate the volume with a few assumptions
We do not have a measured average to predict your wedding. For planning, you could assume 3 to 5 photos per person who contributes. For example, 60 contributors sending 5 photos each would give you 300 photos. This is a scenario, not a measured average.
Count people who might upload, rather than assuming every guest will take part. Allow space for videos too; their size depends on duration and resolution.
What moves the number
Four factors can change your estimate:
- How many guests there are. Forty people do not produce the flow of two hundred. The total climbs with the crowd, even though the count per person stays much the same.
- How long the party runs. A two-hour drinks reception and a dance floor that empties at four in the morning are not the same event.
- The set pieces. The entrance, the first dance, the speeches, the cake: every high point sets off a forest of phones, and a wedding with surprises in it mechanically produces more pictures.
- How hard you ask. The most underrated factor by a distance. With no clear instruction the photos stay on the phones; with a visible QR code and a word from whoever is running the room, they land in your album.
Calculate using the number of contributors
Multiply the guest count by the share you expect to contribute, then by photos per contributor. For example, 80 guests × 70% × 4 photos gives 224 photos. At 20% participation, it gives 64. These are two planning scenarios, not expected results.
We do not have published measurements that predict your participation rate. Adjust these assumptions to your guests and the way you plan to share the album.
Try the upload process before choosing: open the link, select photos and send them. Browser access avoids an installation, but guests still decide whether to contribute. See the guide to getting your guests' photos back for the different methods.
How to push participation up
Here are four ways to make sharing easier:
- A visible QR code, in the right place. On every table, at the entrance, next to the bar: wherever guests have ten idle seconds. Our free QR sign maker produces the print-ready PDF, and the wedding photo QR code guide covers where to put it.
- Make an announcement. A friend or the DJ can explain where to find the QR code and how to add photos.
- Keep access simple. On Medley, guests open the album, enter their first name and select their files, without creating an account.
- Send a reminder after the wedding. Some guests will prefer to choose and upload their photos once they get home.
On capacity, enough to take your 300 photos and the videos with them: The free trial accepts 20 photos or videos until 30 days after the event (one year at most), with every feature included; the Event plan, at 39 € once (launch price until December 31, 2026; 49 € for new purchases from January 1, 2027), includes 100 GB of storage per album with no limit on the number of photos and videos and keeps it for 2 years. The album is kept for 2 years on the Event plan; an album still on trial is deleted 30 days after the event date (or after its creation, if the album has no event date or one earlier than its creation), and no later than one year after its creation. All of it hosted in the European Union and GDPR compliant.
